Funny People to Follow on Twitter

I follow a lot of people, so picking just a few for #followfriday on Twitter can be a challenge. Instead, I’ve made a list of my favorites for the benefit of those who are new to Twitter, such as my brother @ripslich and my lovely wife @rondicasmith, and a few co-workers. I hope the lists below give you an idea about what I love about being on Twitter.

Following a lot of people I obviously can’t read every tweet by every person, but there are a few that are so funny I always go back. They are

@sniffyjenkins - if she’s not the funniest person on Twitter, she’s close. She has since declared herself “Empress of LOL”, to which I have no argument.
@sween - is there anyone left not following @sween? Guys want to be him, gals want to be with him. He’s the man, a Canadian man.
@MeetingBoy - I love his tweets about meetings. They remind me of ones I used to do.
@kariedwards - she’s funny, and dirty, and I’m always a little nervous when she mentions me
@bsheepies - quirky, and one of my original partners in crime for starting #memes. When I don’t laugh out loud, I always smile.
@hotelechozulu - a long time favorite of mine, perhaps the quirkiest. Also adept at nicknaming. It was she who first referred to my followers as the Branch Joeschmittians.
@giromide - if Favrd ever goes down, I just check his Favorites. He is funny, and he knows funny. I know I’ve failed when I don’t get his star.
@AprilSTL - for all my Twitter pimping, I have no real street cred. Any time I don’t understand what the hip kids are saying, I check with her. She’s better than Urban Dictionary
@toldorknown - I think I first heard about Favrd from him, and no wonder, he is a Favrd Grand Master.
@MamitaMojita - smart, funny, clever, boozy - everyone looks up to her. Bitter has never been so much fun.
@ivegotzooms - she is the master at turning Too Much Information into funny tweets, though we actually know nothing about her, not even her first name.
@Aimee_B_Loved - she’s edgy and the only gal brave enough to flirt with and provoke @benmarvin, and that’s saying something
@gordonshumway - I even read her tweets about House, a show I don’t watch starring an actor that - unlike her - I do not drool over. That’s how entertaining she is. I know she does stand-up, so maybe one day she’ll be in my town.
@frostinglickr - let’s just say it’s a good thing she stopped tweeting under her own name and leave it at that.
@myracles - she’s giving @baileygenine a run for her money for Favrd sweetheart. Everyone wants her attention (follow) and approval (stars).
@swimparallel - I follow her because it’s amusing to watch someone’s spirit get crushed their first few years in the workforce
@kimproper - she’s had some of the funniest unemployment/recession tweets
@baileygenine - the darling of Favrd. Who doesn’t adore her? Small, petty people, that’s who.
@ECByrd - he tweets only sparingly, but only so he keeps his average up. His OBP is higher than Bonds.
@eoporto - she cracks me up at least once a day
@Ladawn - send her a bottle of red wine and get ready to laugh
@mimismartypants - she doesn’t tweet much - her blog is the funniest though
@emilyelisabeth - because no one else can make Taft or William Henry Harrison jokes like she can
@hotamishchick - this is the best in character fake on Twitter - as good as @FakeSarahPalin was during the election, except you know, without the possibility that @hotamishchick will one day be holding the nuclear (or is it “nucular” launch codes)
@SarahInMI - my favorite tweets are when she’s frustrated. It turns out she also has taste in music, you know, if you’re into that sort of thing.
@liabolicious - she’s funny in so many ways. For example, prior to following her, I had never heard a joke about Drupal.
@slag_mag - no one is as devoted to mocking me as he is
@Kathy_L - the second funniest person in Iowa (@liabo is first)
@ImAVeronica - my favorite Scrabble opponent, even when she’s beating me.
@lisarahmat - my favorite tweeter in Singapore. She tweets when I’m asleep, so I can wake up amused.
@katefeetie - she cracks me up on almost every tweet. Her Tumblr is just as good.
@hoosiergirl - I’m sure she’s a better wife and mother than she pretends to be on Twitter.

I hope Fox News doesn’t get on my case because my top two are from England and Canada.

@biblicone - a former colleague, I’m pretty sure his jokes were all under 140 characters as far back as 2000
@CowboyW - one of the guys behind the Mystery Science Theater style mocking of The Warriors. Check out the clips.
@heathermitch - coworker, and your best bet for inside dirt or hijinks
@justirish - my boss
@amykchulik - ready to jump in on any #meme, especially the pickup line variety. Something of a live music addict as well.
@kristijoklemm - fiesty, and loves to mock me.
@fadedgiant - he’s the one who told me to follow @hotdogsladies, for better or worse. I miss our daily calls.
@kid_capricorn - no one can punctuate a meeting with a few well-placed “muthafuckas” like he can
@mnik - a former colleague, his bio says it all - “More lorem, less ipsum.”
@morganschmitt - my cousin; follow him for the inside scoop on a professional cyclist
@thedirtymoose - another cousin and student at Washington
@AvatarMonica - coworker who technically has been on Twitter longer than I, though she hasn’t made the paper
@ripslich - my brother, considered the funny one in the family by many
